There are many opportunities in the Salesforce ecosystem. We hear great trailblazer stories, news about CRM market share growth, and even great tips and tricks from great projects. These are the things people love to talk about.
What many do not want to discuss are the projects that don't go well, the accounts that go red, and the unrealized potential never seen. This challenge isn't unique to Salesforce projects though it does impact it at the same or an even greater rate given the level of customization available.
Research over many thousands of projects puts the rate of project failure from 45% to as high as 95%. Yes, I wrote that correctly and the financial losses are in the billions. The reason few people know this is summed up in an old saying, "success has many fathers, failure has none."
No one wants to own and discuss a project failure.
If we are going to make it as Salesforce professionals, we need to learn to see these symptoms and learn to treat them within our projects. Our career success depends on a trail of customer success we can share and celebrate.
