Kick-start your Flow design process by leveraging custom-made Flow templates that will save you valuable time and effort. In this hands-on session you will learn a simple but systematic method to building trouble-free, easy-to-maintain Templates for Record-Triggered Flows. We'll start with a fool-proof Naming Convention that will make documentation a cinch and keep all your Flows organized. Then, we will create a Flow On/Off switch using a Decision Element and Custom Settings so you can switch off all RTFs globally, by object, or individually. Next, we will add an 'Is New' Decision (using a formula and variables) so you can Trigger the Flow when: 'A record is created or updated' to consolidate the number of Flows you will need. And finally, we will create useful variables like 'varFlowON' and 'varDoNothing'. By re-using a consistent design pattern, your Flows will not only be easier to read and debug, but also make any future refactoring a piece of cake.

When arriving at a fine restaurant, known for its variety of decadent dishes, the first order of business is to familiarize oneself with the menu. Each time we create a new Flow, the first screen shows our menu of options (Flow types) along with a brief description. Picking the wrong dish can ruin a restaurant experience; likewise, picking the wrong Flow type can lead to frustrations and headaches and ruin an otherwise happy day of Salesforce solutioning. Just as a good waiter will talk us through our likes, dislikes, and curiosities to select the best dish; we need an understanding of the different Flow types to help guide us into selecting the best choice to meet our automation needs.

Leads in Salesforce: And why you may be doing it wrong.

It's common place for a consultant to be sought for help with Leads, and this always comes well after the implementation. The fact is that defining the Leads object as 'a place where you put people you want to do business with', or simply 'a place to put your Leads in' is misleading, if not borderline wrong. In this session, we're going to go over the proper definition for the Leads object in Salesforce, what its there for, and discuss how it aligns with Pardot and a Lead Nurturing Process (including Marketing Qualified Leads and Sales Qualified Leads).

We're also going to help validate if the Leads object is right for you and your organization (you may be surprised with the answer).

Flow Design Patterns: Building with Flow at Scale

Patterns are essential to how we understand and interact in daily life, providing a framework for how to interpret and respond to our world. Flow Design Patterns, paying homage to the role patterns play in traditional software design, brings this same concept to declarative automation and establishes a flexible approach for building with flow at any size.

Starting with a review of familiar patterns in Apex design and Process Builder, this session will build on those concepts to provide admins & architects with the ground rules for creating all declarative automation in flow. The transition to flow is demonstrated through the familiar process builder layout, allowing those newer to the tool to have the confidence they can use their existing skills to champion flow.

The session will establish rules for creating a flow framework that works in large, complex environments beginning with naming conventions that are standardized to provide easy Flow List View creation, mirror development terms (Trigger, Classes), and allow for easy componentization and reusability of flows. The focus shifts to how the 'one process per object' rule works with Flow Triggers; setting guidelines for how to keep control of your order of execution while managing increasingly complex automation needs.

The design pattern itself demonstrates how Flow Triggers, Flow 'Trigger Handles', and Flow 'Classes' work together to create an all encompassing approach to flow that is highly flexible, modular, and scalable. Attendees will leave ready to tackle a flow-only world, allowing them to apply their flow building capabilities inside of a systematic approach to declarative automation.

Whether you are managing Salesforce and DevOps at a large and complex scale, while needing to complete and manage the release of long term, highly complex projects or dipping your toe in version control, we will provide you with tips and tricks to build your Devops program. To enable multiple teams working on numerous large projects, we've become adept at dark deployment strategies, as well as managing different, complex sandbox pipelines, including multiple QA environments merging to a single UAT environment. In this presentation we will go over dark deployment strategies, such as using 'natural' barriers / switches such as Record Type, permission sets, or other differentiators for a feature, as well as using custom metadata or labels. We use dark deployment strategies to separate the release of code from feature go-live, enabling roll back to original functionality through a change of a label, or enabling the gradual roll out of new features to subsets of users.

We've dealt with some unique DevOps challenges due to the complexity and size of our Salesforce organization. To adapt we've been through some growing pains in how to do DevOps correctly, including bringing Devs and Admins on board to better practices and dark deployments. Hopefully by sharing some of our learned best practices, other organizations can have better DevOps implementations.
